Food
Background
The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Health Care by Food™ (HCXF) initiative envisions a radically different future where food therapy is used and reimbursed alongside drug therapy to address diet-related conditions. HCXF’s aims include (1) establishing robust scientific evidence on the clinical benefits and cost-effectiveness of Food is Medicine (FIM), (2) securing insurance coverage for FIM as a recognized benefit, and (3) creating a scalable ecosystem to effectively implement this evidence, ensuring widespread access to FIM for patients.
We’ve played a vital role in supporting this work by:
Crafting a systems-based field strategy to drive the broader goals of the initiative.
Convening stakeholders across the ecosystem to collaborate and identify essential system functions for FIM success, fostering collective action to bring this vision to life.
Mapping current systems and designing the future to ensure a sustainable, effective ecosystem for Food is Medicine.
Incorporating human-centered design into Food is Medicine clinical research studies, including researcher training and coaching.
